Keptio

Help & User Guide

Everything you can do with Keptio — and exactly how to do it.

See it in few minutes

A quick tour of everything Keptio can do.

The one thing to know. Your notes live on your phone and nowhere else. That is the privacy promise — but it means losing your phone means losing your notes, unless you make a backup. Chapter 7 takes two minutes. Please do it today.

1. Getting started

There is no setup. Open Keptio and you are in. The Home screen lists your spaces — a space is simply a folder, a separate thread for a separate part of your life.

Creating a space

Tap + at the bottom right, name it, tap Create. Useful ones: Links to read later · Voice memos · Receipts · Wi-Fi passwords · Gift ideas.

Renaming or deleting

Press and hold a space → Rename or Delete.

Deleting is permanent. It removes every note inside. There is no undo.

2. Writing notes

Open a space, type in the box, tap the arrow. That is it. Paste a link and it becomes tappable automatically.

Press and hold any note for: Pin (keep it at the top), Copy, Edit, Share, Delete.

Tap the magnifying glass to search a space as you type.

3. Photos, video, voice & files

To addDo this
Photo or video from your galleryTap + → Photo or video
A new photo or videoTap the camera icon
A voice notePress and hold the microphone. Release to send.
Any file (PDF, Word, zip…)Tap + → Document
Voice notes are the hidden gem. Mid-call, driving, hands full — hold the mic, say the thing, let go. Far faster than typing.

Originals are always kept. Photos and videos stay on your phone at full quality, whatever you choose when sending them elsewhere.

Saving: every attachment has a ⬇ button. Photos and videos go to your Gallery; files let you pick a folder.

  1. On the laptop, open keptio.netlify.app/app.html. A QR code appears.
  2. On your phone: ⋮ → Linked devices → Scan pairing code.
  3. Point your phone at the QR code.
  4. A folder called “Data from Laptop” appears on your Home screen.

Anything you put in that folder appears on both devices, live, end-to-end encrypted.

Your phone is always the owner

Unlinking

Press and hold the folder → Unlink device. The laptop is cut off instantly and wipes what it was showing; the cloud is purged; your phone keeps everything.

One honest limit. If someone already downloaded a file to their own computer while the session was open, unlinking cannot reach into their computer and delete it. Nothing can.

Sessions also close on their own after a period of inactivity — set it under ⋮ → Auto-close session.

5. File size limits

Keptio is built for the notes, photos and clips you fire off to yourself, so there is a ceiling on how large a single transfer can be. It keeps transfers quick and reliable on ordinary mobile connections.

What you are sendingLimit
A video you record inside Keptio (camera button)300 MB
Photos or videos from your gallery100 MB
Documents and other files100 MB
Anything sent from your laptop100 MB
Several files selected at once100 MB in total

As a rough guide, 100 MB is around two to four minutes of phone video, or several hundred photos. Almost everything you send yourself will sit comfortably under it.

If you select several files at once

Keptio sends as many as fit within 100 MB, in the order you picked them, and tells you which ones did not fit. Send those in your next transfer — nothing is lost.

If a file is over the limit

Your file is never lost. It stays on your phone at full, original quality. The limit only affects whether it can travel to your linked device. You can still open it, play it, and save it to your gallery as normal.

Moving something larger

For anything above these limits, use a cable, or your usual cloud drive. Keptio is designed for quick everyday captures rather than moving very large media libraries.

6. Protection from unsafe files

Files arriving from a linked device are scanned on your phone before they land. Keptio checks the file type and its actual contents, so a program disguised as a photo does not slip through.

Blocked: programs and installers, scripts, macro Office files, fake names like invoice.pdf.exe, and anything unrecognised.

You get a yellow “Blocked for safety” card explaining why, with Delete or Trust.

Keptio never runs anything. But once you trust a file you can open it in other apps — and those might. Only trust files you are sure about.

7. Locking Keptio

⋮ → Settings → App lock. Keptio then asks for your fingerprint or face each time you open it. It will not interrupt you mid-task.

8. Backup & restore

Please read this. Keptio keeps everything on your phone and nothing in the cloud. If you lose your phone without a backup, your notes are gone for good. There is no “forgot password” and no copy on a server.

Making a backup

  1. ⋮ → Backup & Restore
  2. Type a passphrase (8+ characters), then type it again
  3. Tap Create backup → confirm
  4. Tap Save / Share and keep it somewhere safe — Google Drive is a good choice
Write the passphrase down. If you forget it, the backup can never be opened — not by you, not by us, not by anyone. That is what real encryption means.

Restoring

Install Keptio → ⋮ → Backup & Restore → type your passphrase → Restore from a backup file → pick your .kepr file. Restoring adds to what is already there; it never overwrites.

9. Questions people ask

Can you read my notes?

No. They are stored on your phone. Anything moved between your devices is encrypted first, so the relay only ever holds scrambled data. We have no key.

Do I need an account?

No. No sign-up, no email, no password.

What if I lose my phone?

With a backup, restore it and everything returns. Without one, the notes are gone.

Does it work offline?

Yes, completely — for your own notes. Internet is only needed to move things between devices.

Is there a size limit?

100 MB for most transfers, and 300 MB for a video you record inside Keptio. Larger files are still saved on your phone at full quality — they just are not sent to your linked device. See File size limits for the full table.

Does Keptio cost anything?

No. Keptio is free.
